Dynamic Timer?

Hi experts,

In or environment most of the business processes are ad-hoc based, no one can predict when and what will happen.Is there any way to define timers based on process variable? The predefined timers in process builder does not help me to achieve my goal.The due date will be defined by previous performers.Any suggestions?

We had same requirement. AFAIK, there is no OOTB feature that satisfies this requirement. You need to write a server method to query and compare server clock with due date.

Thank you for the reply, I though creating custom job as well, but created this discussion to make sure that there is no an alternative.I wonder why EMC created the timers so immature?Why it is not possible to define it based on a variable or something similar, cant understand.

We had similar thoughts. Did you submit a ticket? If they dont come back with answer, then you should ask for enhancement request.

do you mean support?We only have standard support I don't know if they will accept enhancing the product, but don't know I guess many people have the same requirement.

You can submit enhancement request with standard support. You own the product so have ability to suggest new features if the current product doesnt support it.

Thank you Johnny, I will open a service request, but this will not help me as I can't wait long.The project is almost finished we just have a few minor problems and also this one.Hope too see this feature in the future.

Hello,

We have same requirement and I acheived this by using 2 timers.

I have activity A which is having 2 Post Timers, First expires in 1 minute (can not set less than that) and second timer expires in 1 Hr.

When First timer expires in within 1 minute it executes JAVA method and it updates the next timer to exact due date, which is set in Process Variable.

Java method gets the workflow id as input parameter, so you can easily find the queue item and timer object and it allows to change the timers and it woks ok. We are using same JAVA method in many wokflows with very small configuration.

Some drawback of this:

When task arrives in user Inbox, initiatily due date is shown as 1 min and with in 1 min it's get changed to actual dynamic value.

When user delegates the task, it shows the wrong due date which is 1 min and does not show correct one in inbox UI. but Expire Mails and notifications works fine.

Just user Inbox is not showing correct "I have stuked here and need some help from you......."

I'm not able to update dmi_workitem as when user delegates the task, CS creates the new queue item it takes due date from workfitem (my guess).

Please add on your comments , may be we will achive the good solution from this.
