How to capture & send dynamic data entered on webpage using TPL

Hi ,

I want a link called 'Contact Us' on a page .

When user clicks on 'Contact Us' a form should pop up having one field called 'Your Query' & a submit button .

When user hits the Submit button we want to send the data to a mail id .

I donot want the outlook promt to come when i click on Submit . I want something like ...the data should automatically pass to one e-mail id .

Can we do this using TPLs or do we need something else .

I am using TS 6.1 on Windows box .

A very important question to ask would be, whether you are talking about a public site or some internal site?

This is because generally TS is inside the firewall and I don't think that it would be a good idea to let any external application talk to it through firewall.

Also, while datacapture is a very strong USP for TeamSite, you should know when an idea of using some feature of TS in your application sounds like an overkill

What I mean by that is, you could do what you require in a different way which is less complicated clean and simple.

Having said that, it is certainly do-able *in your internal site* and you should look into using CCI command URL for invoking a form, let me know if you don't find it in the user interface customization guide, I will send you the format.

Ravio, How can it be acheived if a public site requires something similar to this? I have a similar query, where a contacts section would capture some user inputs (not neccasarily through a pop up) and then on submit/save, the information is to be sent out to a particular mailbox.

Well, it depends on what options you have and what will best suit your application platform and/or your architechture.
I can think of options like
1. Applets
2. JSP's
3. HTML forms for capturing data and forwarding to a CGI program which will then process the form data
4. CGI rendered forms for capturing and processing the data

Ok first of all let me clear up a thing which I overlooked, it was early morning and I had yet to get some caffine going

TPLs are really for generating formatted content

And since all you want is, to be able to

1. Capture content, in plain text
2. Send it to a predefined email address

Use one of the options suggested earlier.

why do you want to use TeamSite for something that looks like a primitive CGI script/servlet, etc, that will send mail?

I guess you need to spend some more time studying TeamSite architecture and its use, as well as the use of CMS in general.

As for the scripts, use google. Heaps of this stuff available, let alone perl cookbooks, etc.
