how to determine patch/SP level
boskovuk
How to find out about patch/SP level being applied on:
TeamSite
OpenDeploy and
DataDeploy
components?
When logged into TeamS, I see 'About' option. However, this doesn't give me too much information (about all applied service patches, for example).
thanks ...

Unfortunately - Interwoven has never done a very good job of making this information obvious.
In the 5.x world I believe you needed to look in IWHOME/../IWOV_UPGRADES/ and in there would be product subdirectories and version subdirectories and finally service pack subdirectories -- of course you also had to know that TeamSite/5.5.2/3 meant you had SP2b not SP3 (sigh)
In the 6.x world (at least with 6.5 but I think with all 6.x releases) it's similar but different. IWHOME/../iwinstall/products/TeamSite/TS650SP1/ means you have TeamSite 6.5 with SP1 installed.
One of these days maybe IWOV will have iwversion retrieve this information for you when doing its job.
Patches - FYI - are *not* guaranteed to be recorded anywhere unless you have your own detailed process for applying them and recording the event.

Here is what I use (on windows) but this does not show you the patch-level:
TeamSite: Run “iwserver –v” or check iw-home/local/logs/iwtrace.log
OpenDeploy sender Run “iwodstart –v”
OpenDeploy receiver Run “iwodservergetversion”
DataDeploy integrated install with OD
OpenDeploy AdminServer Via web-inlog page (
http://server:8081/iw/opendeploy/login
)
Patch-levels (on windows) do show in the 'add/remove software' under the windows control panel.
Hope this helps, Ronald

I'd recommend
iwversion

DataDeploy integrated install with OD
OpenDeploy AdminServer Via web-inlog page (

Patch-levels? or SP-levels? The latter is more likely as SP's come with an installer, patches do not. If so, then this should be equivalent to looking in the places I suggested before to find SP-levels.
Feel free to file a request with Support for this - a number of us have in the past, but it doesn't hurt for Interwoven to keep being reminded that the ability to get detailed version information is a good thing

Fish,
you're right there. I was mixing up the patch & SP-levels.

With TeamSite 6.5 and above, you can get all the TeamSite install information by going to the About Link in your contentcenter UI. When you click on the About link, it should give you the high-level information about the TeamSite version and Build number (including ServicePacks and Patches). There is also an advanced link from that screen that will display all the installed modules and their version/build numbers.

This is interesting - I click on the
About
link in CCPro and I see:

Role: ...
Server: ...
Version: Interwoven TeamSite 6.5.0 Service Pack 1
Build Number: 46458
Installed: May 16, 2005 by root
Last Updated: May 17, 2005 by root
I run
iwversion
and I get:
iwserver: 6.5.0 Build 46299 Interwoven 20050310
Notice the build number difference.
It's nice to see this information about SP and patches (I'm not sure how you're going to track patches that don't have installers - unless they're going to now?) - but it would be
really
nice if you could provide a CLT (
fix the existing CLT
) that would provide the same information -- both in terms of amount of information as well as the same actual data - since apparently that's not the case right now....
Note: I get the same information running
iwversion
,
iwversion -v
, and
iwserver -v

The reason you are seeing the difference is because iwversion is getting that information from the server. The TeamSite install consists of a TeamSite package that is made up of a number of individual modules - the server being one of them. If you look at the About link, you are seeing the TeamSite package Build information and in the details you should see all the individual modules. I think the build information you see in the server module on that screen should match the iwversion information you are seeing.
Also, all the new patches are being built and packaged with the new install infrastructure and so you should see patch information in the "About" link as well. This is true from TS 6.5 onwards..

It's nice to hear about the patches.
What's the purpose of iwversion if it provides different, and apparently incorrect, information about the product versions.
I like the degree of information that's shown in the About link - I'd like it better if I could get something like that via a CLT (i.e. iwversion) - and I bet your Support folks would love to be able to capture it as well for their diagnostic script output.

I have found that patch information are messed up as well. In order to see what has been patched up on our TS 6.5 server and what is recommended by Interwoven, I visited:
- support web site and
- checked TS About information
Provided data are not in sycn.
Suggested patches (on TeamSite support website) , applicable to 6.5, are:
Patch ID 1581 (critical)
Patch ID 1578
Patch ID 1552
Current production server load reads this:
Version: Interwoven TeamSite 6.5.0 Service Pack 1
Build Number: 46458
and patches info:
Patch ID Name Install Date Installed By
60470 Interwoven TeamSite 6.5.0 Service Pack 1 Patch 60470 Jul 18, 2005 root
Our system admin, who maintains this box (Solaris 9 based) confirmed that all recommended patches, as of July 18, have been installed.
Unfortunately, I am not able to confirm that statement by reading data provided by TS About functionality.

Ah yes, a long-standing (several years) complaint I've had with Support - each patch has an ID and (for lack of a better term) a Number - the Patch ID is how the patches are listed on the Support site; but the Patch Number is how the patches are recognized by Engineering (and the product).
For instance, if you look on the support site, you might see something like this:
Patch ID 1585 : TeamSite 6.5.0 for Solaris
...
Source:
download
(211.5 Mbytes)
...
You'll see that it clearly says
Patch ID 1585
, but if you let your mouse hover over the download link (
the above, for this post, is just underlined not a link - you have to go to the real support site to verify this
) you'll see something like:
https://.../...src=IWOVts-sol-6.5.0.1-P60470-Build48453.tar.gz
Notice here, that the actual patch number from engineering is
P60470
.

TeamSite: Run 'iwserver 'v' or check iw-home/local/logs/iwtrace.log
I'd recommend iwversion
I am in a middle of determining if my current TeamSite server has any upgrades been applied. All three suggestion have been tried:
o iwserver -v
o iwversion
o checked within iwtrace.log (searched for service and patch words - no matches within log file)
Can we assume that no service packs and no service patches have been applied?
Are there some other ways to extract information on (possible) installed service pack(s) and patches?
