Can you instantiate a workflow from an e-mail?

Example: have a mail sent to an address that when TeamSite sees it TeamSite starts a workflow.

Does that even make sense?

Sure, why not.

You did not provide scenario details, so the following may or may not fit...

Either:
1. Create a work flow before sending a mail and format mail body with CCI link
to this workflow. Then your client can click a link right from mail and get to WF
interface. Disadvantage is that either mail is processed or not, your WF is already
active.

or

2. Design WF instantiator available via http request(CGI or whatever your favorite) and again
provide a link to it from mail body. Returned page may have some controls to instantiate
wf, get to it and so on...

If you can have the mailbox to which the mail is sent processed by a script - and the email message (headers and/or body) follow a consistent design - the script (whose process must be owned by a TeamSite master user - e.g. root / Administrator or other of your choice) could pull out the information it needs to create an XML input file for iwwft_compile.ipl to instantiate the workflow. Or alternatively it could create a job description file and use iwjobc -i to instantiate it.

So - yeah, it's possible - but I wouldn't classify it as trivial (probably somewhere mid-way between "trivial" and "rocket-science" ;-)

If you already have the workflow built, you could just use the newjob CCI URL link (page 102 of the TS 6.5 UICG manual) embedded in the email. The user of course would have to click the link to start the workflow, but that could be an option.

I think what Trey is referring to is actually setting up a daemon to listen for new email which, if parsed with proper information, will kick off a workflow.

If this is the case, I agree with fish... neither trivial nor rocket science, but comfortably in the middle somewhere.
