Documentum error on checking in new document with a different content

Hi All,

I am getting a Documentum error on checking in new document with a different content.That is the checked out document has a different content type.I then change the content type and attributes of this checked out document and try to check in it.

I get this error when I check in the document:

[DM_SYSOBJECT_E_CANT_GET_CONTENT]error: "Cannot access content for id '09041eb5801a6e96', format 'excel8book', page '0', page modifier ''"; ERRORCODE: 100; NEXT: null

Any suggestions?

Can you please let us know how you are trying to check-in document (like code snippet will do) ?

Step 1: We are checking out the object using DFC api from my tbo code.

if (sysObjCO.isCheckedOut())

{

LOG.warn("\nWarning: the object is already checked out!");

}

else {

sysObjCO.checkout();

}

Step 2: We have two objects here.One which is being imported and the other is in the repository which we have checked out.The imported doc is of type .rtf and the checkedout doc is of type .xls

First we get the content of the imported document using the getFile and getContentType functions.

String file = importedObj.getFile(null);

String extn = importedObj.getContentType();

Then we set this content and contentType on the checked out document:

checkOutObj.setFile(file);

checkOutObj.setObjectName(objectName);

checkOutObj.setContentType(extn);

Step 3 :

Then we simply checkin the docment into the repository.

IDfId newObjId = checkOutObj.checkin(false, "");

On this particular line it gives a error :

[DM_SYSOBJECT_E_CANT_GET_CONTENT]error: "Cannot access content for id '09041eb5801a6e96', format 'excel8book', page '0', page modifier ''"; ERRORCODE: 100; NEXT: null

Hi,

instead of using setFile method, use setFileEx method. And in this case there is no need to call setContentType method. So it will be like:

checkOutObj.setFileEx(file,ext,0,null);

checkOutObj.setObjectName(objectName);

and then you can perform step3, to check in document.

Just one last favour...what is the difference between the two calls?

checkOutObj.setFile(file);

checkOutObj.setContentType(extn);

and

checkOutObj.setFileEx(file,ext,0,null);

And why do we mention 0 in the function call.It is the page number i Know but what is the significance?

setFileEx allow you to directly assign the file and the format. You can also define page number.

As Julien mentioned, setFileEx extended method provides flexibility of specifying content type and page number as well.

In your case, we necessarily not required to go by this approach, it can also be taken care if you would have method calls in following order:

checkOutObj.setContentType(extn);

checkOutObj.setFile(file);

checkOutObj.setObjectName(objectName);

So, importantly we should have to call setContentType before if we are updating content type of sysobject.

Now, we can associate more than one content (of course they should be of same content type) to sysobject, where each content is represented by page number. In order to do so, you need to use setContentEx or setFileEx method and similarly when retrieving such content we can use getContentEx or getFileEx method where we can specify page number. In normal scenario, since only single content is associated with sysobject it is always 0.

Be careful with the page number because most client (Webtop) doesn't provide support to page number.
