when forwarding task in auto activity getting an error.

Hi everyone

I had wrote an auto activity method for forwarding the task to next activities based on users from attributes.

But here i am getting some error can any one help me. I am coping the code along with error.

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String cannot be cast to com.documentum.fc.client.IDfActivity

at com.documentum.fc.client.DfWorkitem.setOutputByActivities(DfWorkitem.java:849)

Here I am able to get the forward Activities but when i am setting in setoutputbyActivtiies() the following error is throwing.

Hi,

this is apparent from code and error that IDfList which is passed to setOutputByActivities method contains "String", instead it should only contain IDfActivity object(s).

following is snippet of your code:

listusers = addUsers(atthos,atthosea);

listusers.append(activity);

wkitem.setOutputByActivities(listusers);

and 'addUsers' method is adding String objects to IDfList which is returned from method.

Thank for you replay .But here I am adding the users into list and that list is returned to listuser.How can i change my code.So here how can i add users to activity and how to setOutputByActivities(listusers);

It will be great for me if you provide some sample code where i can set three users in an activity and the workitem is forwarded to only that three users in a group.(this is dynamicaly from attributes) can I achieve this requirment by configuring in bpm.if so how can help me.

Firstly you need to update code to set only IDfActivity object and not users to IDfList object which is passed to setOutputByActivities() method. So it will be something like:

IDfList activityList = new DfList();

activityList.append(activityObject);

wkitem.setOutputByActivities(activityList);

Secondly, to set the performers to activity it depends on how you have designed the Process. Can you let us know how you have assigned the activity performer.

Thanks for your reply.In the forward activity(manual Activity) I set perfromer as some users from group.This users are comming from meta data.

When I am printing wkitem.getruntimestate() it is giving as 5.Why i don't understand but in error it is showing as paused.I tried to resume workitem but still it is showing the same error.

Can you please let us know, what is your requirement actually.

Do you want to create workitems corresponding to both Activity-3 and Activity-4 from Auto-Activity or Auto-Activity needs to be just forwarded to either of Activity-3 or Activity-4. Assuming in either case you want to set performers using document's attribute value.

workitem here represents the current work item object, which is essentially an auto activity.

this is what i did, simulating same scenario:

created workflow:

Activity-1 --> Auto Activity ---> split into 2 manual activities (Activity-2, Activity-3)

in workflow design, for Activity-2 and Activity-3 performers are designated as:

some users in group : determined in auto-activity

following is code snipet/logic for automatic activity:

a. acquire task

b. fetch all next activities

IDfList fwdactivities = workitemObject.getForwardActivities();

c. for each activity perform logic:

IDfActivity activity = (IDfActivity) fwdactivities.get(j);

String actname=activity.getObjectName();

// define condition based on your requirement

if(actname.equals("Activity-2")) {

IDfList list = new DfList();

workitemObject.setPerformers(actname, list);

d. define next activities

workitemObject.setOutputByActivities(fwdactivities);

e. complete the current task (i.e. automatic activity)

In my case, I have hard coded user names, you can get it from document attributes. Also, in step#d system forward the task to both Activity-2 and Activity-; based on your requirement you can either forward it to one of the two activities.

Note: make sure that user name set to IDfList are user's user name (i.e. dm_user user_name attribute) and not user login name. Also, make sure to acquire and complete the auto-activity.

If any error occurs during processing and auto-activity is not completed, it will go to pause state.
