You can also have a look at the following white paper: "Migrating Documentum products from 5.3 to 6.5 and beyond": https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-3829.

There are many documents related to migration approaches, differences between versions, etc.To find them, go to the Documents view of this forum, then search for the term "migration" for example, or search for "jdiff" to get a javadoc document of the changes between two versions of an API (ex: https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-8078 is the Diff between DFC 5.3 SP6 and 6.5 SP3).
