MediaBin search log
jitendra
Hello,
What kind of information is logged in the MediaBin search logs? We would like to capture the criteria that people normally use for searching the repository.
I would also like to know, how the search trace is turned on. I tried to modify the registry keys "On" and "Append" for "SearchTrace" to 1. It did not seem to help.
Any inputs on this would be useful.
Thanks
Jitendra

I got a response from support on this issue. Recording it here for reference -

Basically we can forget about the search.log it is not used at all anymore and that's why there are no results returned in it.
It was used mainly for logging error messages with search and not performance or reporting.
In 4.5 MediaBin queries are logged in the DBTrace log. From engineering:
"Unfortunately, there are several problems in using this log:
1) In MB 4.5, only SQL querries are logged, but not their parameters;
2) In MB 4.5.1, parameters get logged, too. However, queries for 'Any Text contains/starts with' searches, together with their paremeters, are too long (more than 4000 characters) and therefore are not logged;
3) Also, in MB 4.5.1, there is a bug in the logging code that may throw unhandled exceptions for 'Text metadata contains/starts with' searches.
This bug is only fixed in MB 4.5 SP2."
The only thing that might be available what is engineering states as
follows: " SQL Profiling. Contrary to what you may think, SQL profiling does not affect the performance of MediaBin/database significantly. And from the profile data, you can look up all MB search queries (SQL queries and parameters) by retrieving those starting with "SELECT DISTINCT"."
So in conclusion there is no currently available log that will help you in analyzing your user's search parameters. But just as engineering has recommended above you might be able to do this with you DataBase Administrator with SQL Profiling
