issue: my system restarts when generating pages..

Hi,

I have TeamSite6.5 installed in my PC. Whenever I generate pages using DCRs and PTs, my system restarts saying :

"KMODE-EXCEPTION-NOT-HANDLED
Beginning dump of physical memory
Dumping physical memory to disk : 10"

I also get the same error whenever I edit files on the IFS (Interwoven File System).

And when I look up in the iwtrace.log file, it shows:

"Your system has run low on virtual memory
(4Mb is available)"

Please help me up... to solve this issue....

Dude u havent told us which OS + Service Packs

And your *PC's* hardware configuration

And you have also found out the answer to the issue in your trace log.

So, what you need to do is, turn up the virtual memory or the size of your paging file

Thanks for the reply. As you said I increased the pagefile size. Now I don't get the error : "Low on virtual memory" in the iwtrace.log.

Even then my system restarts when generating pages using the DCRs and PTs. I find the following error when it restarts::

My PC configuration is::

OS : MS windows 2000 Server
SP : Service Pack 4
RAM : 512MB
Processor : Intel 2.26GHz processor

Each recommended CPU should be at least 3.0 GHz. I wouldn't harp on that, I know TS can get away with a far slower processor if you're not being too demanding on it. However, you really don't have enough memory to run TeamSite. 1/2 GB is far too small to run this thing. IW recommends 2GB on the very low end but again, I can tell you that it will run with less if you're very gentle with it... but 512MB is way too low.

I'm not sure that's the problem you're having but since you gave your config, I thought I'd throw in my $0.02.

What happens if you import and try out some of the example templates from

Have you gotten more RAM for your computer?
Have you ensured that W2K SP4 is supported by the version of TS you are trying to run?
Are you running other applications on your PC (virus checkers, backup programs, etc.)?

Since you're the one requesting the help, why don't you help us to help you. What about the hardware on your box? Like I mentioned, 512 MB is below the minimum suggested RAM to run TeamSite. In my opinion, you really should have done this homework before ever installing TS, even if memory doesn't turn out to be the direct problem. So, your wasting so much time on this can't be attributed to ravio or to anyone else on DevNet, except perhaps you or someone else in your organization who decided to install this app with only 25% of the memory that's required to run it.

Hi Dave,
I have added an additional 256mb to the existing 512mb. Now my RAM is 700MB plus.

And we are working on teamsite 5.5.2 for the last three years with the following configuration :
RAM : 512MB
Processor : 2.26GHz
HDD : 80GB
SP : SP4
Interwoven TeamSite5.5.2 ServicePack4

And we did not get any issue with the above configuration.

Now TS 6.5 is installed in another system where configuration is:
RAM : 512MB + 256MB
Processor : 2.26GHz
HDD : 80GB
SP : SP4
Interwoven TeamSite5.5.2 ServicePack4

And for the above configuration my system restarts when pages are generated. Also it restarts when I edit files on IFS.

And unfortunately the system that has TS 5.5 installed is also behaving in the same manner. Even this system restarts for generating files or editing files on IFS.

What would be the problem? Need help

How much *free* space is on the box? Also, my feeling is that if you were to try and contact support about this issue they would also tell you that you're low on memory. I understand that you've added 256MB memory but you've gone from having only 25% of the recommended RAM to a whopping 37.5%. See what I mean? But 80GB is a pretty small hard drive to run TS -- it might be okay depending on your implementation, but how much free space do you have on this drive?

Did you even look through the installation manual?
It is clearly mentioned that even for a *light* configuration with just TeamSite running, the minimum recommended hardware is 2 Gb RAM and 1 CPU clocking 3Ghz

Besides, if your setup could run TS 5.5.2 effortlessly doesn't mean it will do so for TS 6.5 too.

My TS 6.5 is installed on C drive(40GB partition). And it has 28GB free space still. And may be Dave you are right... I may be running low on memory... I should still upgrade...!!

While you're upgrading, seriously consider upgrading the size of your hard drive. 40GB will likely not serve you well for very long. Also, consider getting a faster CPU.

Screw it, just read through the hardware requirements portion of the release notes for 6.5. It's a stealthy 38 pages long and makes for either lovely bathroom reading or a bedtime story... hopefully these two events don't coincide for you but I suppose that would be a different bulletin board.

I consider your words. I have to read the installation manual and should seriously upgrade my system. I will do this and will let you know if I still get the same problem.

I have seen the exact behavior for TS 6.5 (no SPs or patches) on Windows 2003 Server with SP2 installed before TS installation. After we uninstalled Windows SP2 and re-installed TS everything worked well. You may want to verify that your OS/SP/hardware confiruration is supported (as already suggested by ghoti).

Hi guys,
Finally this issue is resolved.
It is not the problem with the low memory resources.

Note: If your system restarts with a blue screen showing kmode exception then it would be because of the follwing reasons::
==> Antivirus problem
==> Hardware failure
==> Operating System problem

In my case, it is the problem with the Antivirus. I uninstalled the antivirus program. Now everything is okay.

Even though my system has only 2.88GB free space left, and has 512MB RAM it works.
