Document Viewer for Webtop

Hello All,

I was having an idea of having the in-browser viewer for the webtop which allows us to view the documents of any type without the content tranfer on the host machine and opening the application related to it in the machine.

Instead if we have a in-built document viewer which would help view the documents which would be faster when its compared to the content transfer based view of a document.

Having these ideas I was searching over internet for solutions, I've come to know that we can write custom component for enabling the viewer and also I've come across Accelsee Document Viewer. Link as follows:

Anyone who already has used the application for thier webtop?

Or please do suggest any other ways to configure the viewer to the Webtop.

Hi,

I am not sure how in-built viewer would improve the document viewing. In-built document viewers are used mainly for,

1) One viewer to view multiple document formats without any special document viewing softwares at every client machines

2) Document annotation

3) Document redaction

4) Document editing

There are 2 good products certified by EMC (to my knowledge),

1) Daeja View One

2) Brava Viewer

and it is also easy to integrate with Webtop

Adding to Siva this is something that has been built into Webtop and Taskspace for some time.

Additional products to the list are from Adeptol and Snowbound.

We have used one as a quick viewer that allowed for quick and easy sign off review of documents.

Thank you for your views on the Document Viewer.

You said that you're not sure of how these viewers will help, but I feel that this will improve the user experience with the viewing as it would be instantaneous and ease at use.

If you compare Sharepoint in viewing the documents, SP provides the inbuilt viewer which is quick and user friendly.

This was the thought which made me think about one such option for webtop.

Hi Ranga,

I agree with your point on the instananeous feel that is provided in Sharepoint.

In our experience we had a custom streaming servlet with Daeja which was not that instantaneous but after we switched to ACS url of the content and we find it very good now. If you do not have ACS in your environment, consider setting up one to improve the steaming of the document from content server to the viewer
