Do I need to restart test docbase and DocBroker to see the changes in the object model in a docbase

Hi,

I imported our object model from production docbase into Composer project and then I exported it into test docbase while test docbase and DocBroker are running. Do I need to restart test docbase and DocBroker to see the changes in the object model in test docbase? We are using 6.7.

Please share your knowledge and experience.

No, but you need to restart client app (eg Composer, Webtop, etc). If you dont see changes, run publish_dd api or data dictionary publishing job (both do same thing) and restart client.

I have new object types in test docbase before I installed the new object model. Those object types remained same even if they are part of the object model. I think installing new object model does not delete any existing types. I have no way to see whether the changes (if any) came into effect. How do I verify?

After export does the object model in the destination docbase is over-written without deleting any new type/attributes?

You are correct - installing does NOT delete types OR attributes. You need to do that manually with DA since there might be existing objects/data.

If you run select * from dm_type, you should see your new types if you install them successfully.

Not sure what you mean by export and what you are trying to ask in your last sentence. Please provide an example.

It updates each type, but does not delete any types in anyway.

Also, if you have changed an attribute's type for example from boolean to string, it will not update this and will skip.

It will never delete any attributes of a type but will ad new ones.It will never shorten an attribute's length.

And as long as I know the type hierarchy will not be changed as well.

You can verify the results by navigating Types node in Documentum Adminitrator.
