Web CMS (TeamSite)
invoke iwpt_compile

Currently, when I'm in CC Pro and click on a tpl file, I get a page cannot be found error. Is there a config file that I can change to get the tpl file to display?
Some people have told me that you need a dcr and a tpl to get an output page, but I only want to see the template without any content. After checking the documentation on iwpt_compile it seems possible since iwpt_compile doesn't require a dcr to be specified.

I think you're confusing several different issues here.
#1: viewing a PT (foo.tpl)
Can you preview any other file in TeamSite (like a static HTML page)?
- if not - the problem is probably with [the lack of] your "customer web server" (or its configuration)
If you can preview other files in TeamSite, then the next thing to do is check the access rights on the PT in question, from the file system - perhaps you're getting a permission denied error?
If the PT was written in XML-format - it's possible that your browser is trying to render the XML and having problems for one reason or another - in that case, try File > Download on the PT and then edit/view it with your favorite local editor application
#2: Using a PT
While it is possible to use a PT without a DCR, I believe it is a rather rare occurrance.
To paraphrase one of the original developers of the system:
"A PT is an arbitrary program that takes arbitrary input (DCR) and generates arbitrary output (the generated page)"
You could use a PT to process a CSV file or to process the results from a DB query or some such - but in that respect you'd be using it essentially as a "script" and not a PT (the concept of a PT is somewhat inherently intertwined with the notion of a DCR or at least some well-formed XML data-source).

TPLs may or may not be visible in a browser. Depends on the TPL you wrote.
You would be better off creating a DCR to preview with.
iwpt_compile is useful when the TPL does not work, or the content cannot be previewed,
you can generate it by hand and see where the problems are.

If you just try to click on your tpl file in the TeamSite UI, it will not compile it. It will just display the file as xml. If your server isn't configured properly, that might not even happen. If you want to see the output of your tpl without passing a DCR, I suggest just running it from the command line with iwpt_compile.ipl and output the results into file which you can then open up with your browser. But if there's any logic in your tpl that will prevent the output from being valid html if there is no DCR, this obviously won't work.
