Report DB Size

Everyone,

I'm going to switch to Oracle to manage the deployment reports... so does anyone have a real world example of how big that Database is gonna get... I see the formula on the support site, but it's difficult to know number of deployments etc..

So I figured I'd see if anyone else had done it, and how big theirs is :-)

I'm also requesting from support so whatever I'm sent on sizing guides I'll post back here.

Deployments per day... 5 - 10
Files per deployment ... 3 - 20 ( on average ) some large deployments when we pull on a new section etc...

Found this formula in SP1's release notes. So my question is if. I am not using data deploy then the last part of the fomula would add zero right?

Since I have no database deployments the last number in my mind would be zero.... Is this correct?

So I end up with 32,100.

Is that number K or bytes, or some other number?

Hi David,

The results are in bytes, however I think I see a mistake/misunderstanding in how you filled out the formula. If you say you have no database deployments, than shouldn't the answer to the part about "percentage of deployments that are file deployments" be 1.00?

To be clear, "percentage of deployments that are file deployments" does not mean just "filelist" deployments. It includes any deployment that deploys files (as opposed to database records).

You are correct on the average percentage... the 1 - 100% = 1 right... but when you multiply that * the average number of database records per leg which is 0 that entire line is still zero right?

Hi David,

Percentages are hundredths of 1, so 100% = 1.00, 50% = 0.50, etc. So if you have no database deployments, the 1 - 100% = 1 - 1.00 = 0. So yes, if you have no database deployments, there are two reasons why that whole section of the equation should be 0. That is not incorrect as long as you aren't doing database deployments.

I guess one way of saying it is that the total size of your database is going to be the sum of all the "file" type deployments and the sum of all the "database" type deployments put together. The two are different sizes so it makes a difference of how many of each you do as to what your total size will be. Our formula takes that into account. In your case, however, you are not doing ANY "database" type deployments so it is perfectly normal, and expected, that the size requirements of the "database" deployment records is zero.
