Multiple instances of TS runing on same box

We want to have two TS 5.5.2 running on the same solaris 8 box.
1. How can this be achieved. ?
2. Is this a suitable approach?
3. How stable is this apprach.

We also want to have multiple versions of TS running on the same box ( example TS 5.5.2 and TS 6.5 )
Is this feasible.?
Where can I get more information on this topic.?

Is there a documentation available for this ?

I thought it was a given fact that one cannot run 2 instances of TS on the same box - TS is basically a single instance application per server... It can run multiple backing stores, though

So, yes, I'd like to share my experience I had with a certain life insurance company in Lansing, MI (I believe there's only one). They were, indeed, running four instances of TS and I think only two of them were the same version. If I recall correctly, it was 4.5, 5.0.1 and two instances of 5.5.2. Cutting edge for 2002... anyway, they were running this on a Solaris box and I imagine that the box was fairly beefy.

So, yes, it can be done, at least with the version to which you're referring. I'm not sure about more current versions but I'm wondering WHY you would want to subject yourself to dealing with two TS instances on the same box?

I recall you saying you did this before - and I still don't understand how.
There's only one set of /etc/defaultxxx files that can point to only one TS installation directory, and only one /etc/iw.cfg, and only one server sym file (or whatever it is that's used to provide for the virtual file system) - not to mention all the various ports and such. How could you run more than one instance (of any versions) of TeamSite on the same machine (not taking about virtual machines)?

I believe the official stance from Interwoven is, has-been, and will likely continue to be - that you can only have one instance of TeamSite installed on any one server (each virtual server considered a separate entitiy from its hosting server). They have allowed for multiple backing-stores on a single server, but not (to the best of my knowledge) multiple instances of the TeamSite server process[es] itself.

Note: OpenDeploy has allowed multiple major-versions to be installed side-by-side on the same server as long as they are using different ports - but OD is a much lighter-weight product that doesn't require its own file system.

Well, ports aren't an issue because as you know there are thousands available, but my biggest question was how they handled the whole /etc/iw.cfg thing. I don't believe you could specify a different location for this file... but this was four years ago so my recollection of how they did this is somewhat faded.

You can move /etc/iw.cfg to iw-home/etc/iw.cfg. The start up scripts check /etc first then iw-home/etc

but the /etc/defaultiw* files as ghoti mentioned have me stumped.
