How can I attach a life cycle to a type automatically without writing TBO?

Hi,

I have a custom type and a lifecycle to it. Whenever the a document of custom type is created/imported, that lifecycle need to be applied to it automatically. Do I need to write TBO for this. I think this can be done during the life cycle design in Composer. Please more details of this how I can do this. I will go through the Composer.

Please share your knowledge and experience.

I dont have such code, however it should be fairly simple.

1. Create TBO for your custom object

2. Override doSave method something like:

protected void doSave (boolean saveLock, String versionLabel, Object[] extendedArgs) throws DfException {

// check if object is new object

boolean isNewObject = isNew();

//call to super to save the object

super.doSave(....);

if(isNewObject) {

     //write code to attach policy, something similar as provided as an example in DFC API to attach policy

     try {

          IDfPolicy policyObject = (IDfPolicy) session.getObjectByQualification("dm_policy where object_name = '<your           lifeycle name>'");

          if(policycObject!=null) attachPolicy(policyObject.getObjectId(), "<state_name>", null);

          else {//log for lifecycle not found/custom handling}

     } catch (DfException dfcException) {

           //log exception..

          throw dfcException;

     }

  }

}

the second argument in attachPolicy takes the state name/number as described in DFC API, however if you pass it as null object, document will be attached to first state of lifecycle (provided you have configured the first state where document can be attached)
