Lifecyle state transition question and state searcheability

Hi,

I am not sure whether I need to go for a Lifecycle or not, but I need the following requirement:

Once Workflow Manager starts a workflow, the document must be in "In Process" state. If any activity-performer rejects, it must go to "Rejected" state. Once the final approver in the workflow approves, it must go to "Approved" state. that means from "In Process" state it must go to either "Rejected" state or to "Approved" state. How can I achieve this?

Also any user including Workflow Manager as well as performers must be able to search for the documents in "In Process" or "Rejected" or "Approved" state using Advanced search capability of Webtop 6.7. How can I achieve this too?

Please share your knowledge and experience.

I have wasted my one year trying to create a document flow solution with webtop and workflow manager but achieved to nothing.I suggest to use BPM if it is possible, since the functionalists of workflow manager are very little.

Regarding to your question, the WF manager has an OOTB autoactivity (Method) for promoting a lifecycle state if I am not wrong it has a method for demoting as well.But unfortunately it does not have a OOTB method for attaching a lifecycle to an object, you can write a method as suggested by Johnny for attaching a document to a lifecycle and the rest is easy.

You strongly advise me that I must go for Process Builder instead of using Workflow Manager. RIGHT!!!

Please confirm and give me some more info like practical problems/differences in both in your experience.
