Passing dcr data through url command
jbland
I am planning on calling an existing dcr through a url command using
http://server/iw-cc/edit?vpath=filename
. My problem is that I'm looking for a way to pass a variable in with the url that it would select an option from a select box. For example
http://server/iw-cc/edit?vpath=filename&Selection=2
would select the second option of the Selection item. Is this possible? I'm using teamsite version 6.1 SP1.

I don't believe there is any [supported/reasonable?] way to pass a variable like you're suggesting through the CCI URLs and have it work the way you want.
Perhaps you can expand on the context of this issue?
If you're calling this URL from within a CGI script running on the TS server - the CGI script might be able to perform a programmatic edit of the DCR before you provide / process the CCI URL to edit the DCR at the UI level - and thus you could pre-set the value in the DCR that way.

Y'know, maybe you could use FormAPI to change the selection. For instance, you could have a function that reads the query string of whichever document has the URL you're interested in, and it could interpret and set the selected item in an onFormInit() context.

The context of the issue is that we have an existing dcr now, but want to create a custom workflow for it. So there will be one selection in the workflow were we want to get that answer into the dcr, because thats where the selection is now. I figured that it would be easier to try and pass a variable from the workflow to the dcr than to rewrite the dct.
Thanks for the ideas, keep them coming.

I can't think of how one would pass a variable from workflow to a dct since they're not natively related. But my suggestion doesn't really require that much additional code... probably only a few lines. In that case, you just want to register an event, and write a straight-forward JS routine that will take care of the selection.

As per my suggestion - since you're coming from a workflow context and you already have a handle on the existing DCR - you could have an externaltask or cgitask script modify the DCR (not the DCT) according to your needs and then invoke the Edit DCR functionality afterwards.
Alternatively, you might be able to do it with FormAPI and a CallServer script that takes a handle to the DCR being edited, looks up the job it is associated with, finds the job variable that indicates what it is supposed to do and then does the appropriate javascript/FormAPI code as needed.
Personally, I think the first way is easier - but I believe you could do it either way.
