ts_plain_actions.xml and ts_action_defination.xml

Hello All,

Can some one provide steps with example, of creating new custom action for taskspace.

I know only about adding action in following 2 xmls

1. Why we need to add action in both xml, what significance of both xml spacically defination xml.

2. Is there any documentation from EMC on this ?

3. This action can only be used as invoke button of taskspae forms ?

4. How can I use new action in Taskspace context menu ?

1. I make modifications to ts_plain_actions.xml. Not sure what the other file is used for.

3. No. Custom actions are also available when you right mouse click after selecting an object (along with other OOT actions)

You can use a standard WDK approach.

You first define your custom actions (for example mycustomaction1,mycustomaction2) as per WDK customization guide(s) and then you extend the dm_sysobject_actions menuconfig where you define menu items that would launch your custom action(s)

Example:

If you are working with the custom grid , be sure to include all the necessary object properties (r_object_id, r_content_type etc) as arguments in the grid.

In one of the example given as follows.

<plain-action id="launch_portal" desc="LAUNCH_PORTAL_ACT_LABEL" />

I beleive "launch_portal", action definition need to be created , if no why ?

So If I have to add any new custom action , I need to place in ts_plain_actions.xml and definition in ts_action_defination.xml. Can some one confirm the understanding ?

My requirement is to , Keep workitem in current queue for certain period of time, that period is decided by end user. So user can select the task and say Wait till 1 day.

My Approach is to add,

1. Custom attribute in package, to store value as future date (waiting period) given by end user and will run the job in daily basis and complete the task if match with current date.

On Context menu, I am referring to select workitem Task from tasklist and perform Right Click and I should get my requried custom actions like update date for package.

Yes, you need to place your custom action in ts_plain_actions.xml if you want to access it via Taskspace configuraiton. The actual action definition can be defined in any file - it doesnt have to be in "ts_action_definition".

Most of my experience with actions have been with sysobjects, not taskitems.
