Move docbase

Hello Experts,

I want to move our docbase data from one docbase into another.I know that I can use the Documentum Dump/Load utility.

But my question is that can I dump a 6.6 repository and load it into 6.7sp1? Is that supported?

And also I have about 2 GB attribute data in database and 7 GB content, how long would the utility take for dumping and loading the information?

Is there any faster way?

As Tejraj noted above, my company's open source migration framework, OpenMigrate, might be a very good fit for your requirements. It is a 100% Java solution, designed and built to be as high-performance as the source and target repositories will allow. Depending on CPU, RAM and network speed, we can run with upwards of 30 concurrent threads on each side of the migration. Furthermore, if OpenMigrate can "see" the file stores on the source side, we can bypass streaming from there via DFC and get even better performance (by accessing the physical files directly).

A migration of this type is often a good time to perform any data cleanup and/or transformation; OpenMigrate can be configured to make virtually any change to the data as it executes.

Dump and load is not preferred way to move content from one repository to another (especially if the repository versions are not the same). Dump and load is OLD technology, plus most people encounter issues when dump becomes greater than 2 GB (includes both metadata and content).

Have you tried using Composer and including sysobjects? Make sure you use latest Composer when do this.

When I moved from One Server to another one

Install New DB

Install New CS

Create Docbrokers and Repositories

Make sure Reposiotry Name, ID DB Owner and Passwords are the same.

Export the Documentum Tables from Old Server

Transfer Content from Old CS

Copy over (If content is encrypted, decrypt them and then move it over)

Import Documentum tables to the New DB.

Encrypt DB Password

Copy aek.key file over

Encrypt the db password

I can provide more detsialed steps if needed.

Hey Imran--How many objects are you trying to move? 7 GB of content should normally move pretty quick (like a couple of hours) but it's both content size and number of objects that drive migration time. If you can provide that info, I can give you a ballpark on migrating timing.

Tejraj and Todd it seems as wonderful tool. I will check it right now.I have about 2GB data in the database and about 7GB files.But 1GB of the database data is audit trail logs, and I can purge it.

Documentumguru, thank you for the information but unfortunately I can't do database and os level migration since I want to change the docbase ID.If i do database level migration the docbase ID must be the same in target and source docbase.So this method cant help.
