Required Modules in Composer

Can anybody provide an explanation of what the "Required Modules" section in Composer is for when creating a module? In all of my TBOs and SBOs I am able to call other modules without needing to add the module to the Required Modules section in composer. Usually I just include the interface of the module I want to call with the my interfaces for the current module and I haven't seemed to run into any problems.

Thanks Brian, that makes a lot of sense.

I have seen that website before and it is one of my favorites for info on the BOF...very disappointed he no longer actively maintains/updates it.

So if my TBO is in a repository that is not the global registry....and it calls an SBO from the global registry....do I have to install the SBO in the same repository as the TBO? I tried adding the SBO as a required module for the TBO in my composer project, however the install failed b/c the SBO was not installed in the same repository as the TBO.

TBOs have to be manually installed in each repository. SBOs will be deployed by BOF from the global registery.
