What is the version component? Can I customize it to remove the option of saving an edited document

Hi,

What is the version component? Where can I find it? Is it under webcomponent or webtop or wdk? What is its name? Can I customize it to remove the option of saving an edited document as the same version during checking in? Also I need to scope it to document type?

Please give me the steps (may be code if you have some).

You customize the checkin component jsp to remove the save as same version option OR you can just change the permission for your user to VERSION (instead of WRITE).

Some users need to have write permissions, but they should not overrite by checking in the document in a workflow by "Save as same version". Therefore I need to customize checkin component to remove the "Save as same version" option, but again this will cause every user to not to have "Save as same version" option. How can I scope this customization to "one or more groups: or a "Type". What are the scoping options? Where can I find more info on this?

you can customize the component based on type, role, docbase and even can define your custom qualifier also. Refer "Scoping a component definition" under chapter "Configuring and Customizing Components" in WDK development guide.

Customize the checkin component for role/type for which you do not want user to show "Save as same version" option, so that for remaining OTB component's JSP will be used and OTB behavior will automatically takes care of showing "Save as same version" depending on user access rights on document.

Also, in case of checkin component, to hide "Same as version control" you do not need to customize JSP, this can be controlled via component XML also. Refer "webcomponent\config\library\contenttransfer\checkin\checkin_component.xml" definition, like:

<init-property>

<property-name>visible</property-name>

<property-value>false</property-value>

</init-property>

</control>

...

but make sure that you do not override the properties for other controls defined in OTB layer while extending.
