AFAIK there is no development guide. The reference guide contains examples. If you have to do something with CMIS I suggest you consider using openCMIS from Apache, which is very easy to use.

There is documentation avalibale at the Apache Chemistry site; you can also find quite a bunch of examples googling for openCMIS code
