ostream not working
sandy_893
Hi,
I am trying to generate a file using iw_ostream but am facing some error with it. It generates the file but it also appends some temp name before it. eg
Following is the tag:
<iw_ostream file="folder1/folder2/sample.html">
This generates a file: .../folder1/folder2/zz_tst_500990726_0_sample.html
any idea y this is happening

Are you doing a
Preview
or a
Generate
?
The zz_ prefix is what TeamSite does when it generates files for
Preview
as these files are intended to be transient in nature.
If you are doing
Preview
- what problem, if any, are you facing because of the transient naming of the output file?

hi,
I am doing a Preview to get the files generated. Due to this transient naming the files are not visible in the workarea and also i am not able to set its attributes as the name of the file differs from the one that is getting generated.

It is intended that the preview-generated files are not visible in the workarea (through the GUI at least) - if your PT is intending to set EAs on ostream-generated files you should probably conditionalize that part of the PT so that it doesn't try when doing a Preview (if you search the forums, you can find code for how to do this kind of conditionalization).
You don't need the EAs on the transient files - you only need them on the finished product.

hi,
the files being generated by doing a Preview will be my finished product as i need to built a functionality in which Previewing a file will generate the final output file. Now due to this transient naming neither the files are visible in workarea nor can the EA's be set.
Is there any way to stop these zz_prefixs from getting appended to the generated files

I think this constitutes "design error" - the output from Preview is NOT intended to be used as final output.
I suggest you re-think your design with this, apprently new, knowledge.

hmmm .... will think about some other apprach but i have couple of more questions:
1) This approach of generating files on Preview is working fine on one of our systems but not on the one i am working on. any idea why this is happening
2) Can i customize the Generate functionality so that we the user clicks on it, it generates the file but does not ask for the location (as i am accepting that info i my form).

Is the other system a pre-6.x system? if so - that probably explains it - I believe 6.x explicitly makes the zz_* files "invisible" whereas I don't believe the pre-6.x systems did that.

I don't know that you can customize the OOTB Generate option to do that - but you can certainly create your own custom Generate option (see UICG for information on creating custom menus etc.) which can programmatically provide the [primary] output file name on the command line for either iwgen or iwpt_compile.ipl.

the other system has the same configuration as the one i am working (TS 6.1).
if u find/know some setting that could have caused this difference, please let me know

Don't know - you can check with support - but basically any attempt to manipule preview-generated files for purposes other than what they were intended is not really supported and so the fact that it *works* on one system may be the "bug"
