Multiple JMS on one Content Server

Hi Guys,

Still in architecture considerations (so sorry !!!)... When you install CS, it's automatically deploy an instance of JMS (one and only one). Is ti possible to deploy a stand alone version of JMS (in fact two or more JMS with only one CS ??).

What's the procedure ?

So the answer, as far as I know, is that is not possible to have more than one JMS instance with one content server !

Its in the CS install manual on how to install multiple JMS on single host.

Yes but it's not having multiple JMS (and Content Server) my goal, it's to have multiple JMS for the same CS. I don't find any information about this implementation and not sure it's possible.

The install manual has the following section:

"To add Java Method Servers on Windows hosts:"

I dont think it requires that you have to have multiple CS to support multiple JMS.

Yes this part exists within the CS installation Guide but it stands for configure HA on JMS for multiple CS. So you have to install another CS with that JMS.

I really want to know if someone already have an implementation with One CS and Two or more JMS ?

Why do you say that? I just performed a Google search and someone from my company has done this before (back in 6.6):

Ok Johnny but my need was to have 1 Content Server adressing one Docbase and multiple JMS. In this case you cannot as far as i know.

Got it. You can have multiple JMS for each docbase on 1 content server, but not have multiple JMS for one docbase. So what requirement are you trying to address in having multiple JMS for one docbase?

I try to increase the performance on my content server ... With workflow intensive, i would like to have one JMS for user purposes and one only for workfloxs activities !

I will try with two content server and two JMS.

When you are talking about workflow performance, you also need to consider process engine (not just JMS). Unfortunately, you cannot install process engine independent of content server.

Ok Johnny... You're right but Process Engine is always included in JBoss of JMS, that's right ?

Yes, but PE installation includes more than bpm.ear file. You cant just deploy the ear and get another running PE.

Yes, you also have a dar file to deploy on your docbase. And it's possible to deploy process engine on multiple JMS if you have multiple CS ?

Yes, multiple PE on multiple CS instances (either done physical server or virtual machines). I have not tried this with windows server, and for linux it was easier to stand up another machine then try to install/configure separate stack on same box and use different ports.

Although I have not tried, my hunch would be that you could have two JMS instances on a single host supporting one repository/CS. Since each application points to the JMS by host and port, you should be able to point mail to JMS instance1/port 1, do method to JMS instance2/port 2, etc. Also, acs and bpm could be split similarly. In this scenario, you would not be doubling the functionality, just spreading the load on each JMS by deployed application.

Hello Icarus, can you share more details on the same ? can you provide screen shot of JMS configuration in DA to confirm how to associate or dis associate JMS with CS ? if we have 2 JMS on 1 CS with 1 Repository.
