i actually have a OD6.base and a receiver....on two different physical network.(different location different building)....
they are connected via either internet or lease line...and the receiver will be the web server with ssl enabled(windows 2003s box for both)...is it possible to have base and receiver in this kind of scenario??
i have only tried to deploy to system on the same network...does the server name in onnode.xml of base server have to match the name of receiver machine name(exact match?)...

now my base is behind a firewall...and receiver is not....so i need to open any port ?
when i add the server i got this message "The selected server cannot be contacted at this time."......i suspect it has something to do with the firewall..but i dun see my firewall blocking any traffic..

If there is a firewall between the two servers - then you need to determine

In the first case - if the deployment port is not open - you need to open it.In the second case - I believe you need to adjust the Receiver to accept deployments from the firewall's IP address - instead of from the Base Server - because it won't see the Base Server as the sender, it will see the firewall as the sender.Now - you're also using SSL - which means you have to make sure you properly generated all your keys and such correctly for both sender and receiver, and located them correctly on both machines, and configured the deployment configuration file and receiver to reference them correctly.I believe all of this is reasonably well covered in the OpenDeploy manuals.

Thanks i would put it at default 20014...and the firewall is doing nat to the receiver...(public address)...i only need to open port 20014......?any other port ??i am quite new to ssl....so need to read that up....

1)i manage to deploy successfully to another machine outside the network...but i have a problem i always get this error when i tried to see the opendeploy status of the new receiver.....
error message "the selected server cannot be contacted at this time".......i can see the status of the other receiver but not this one....

2)tried setting up receiver on another win2000 professional machine...i add the od node in base the public ip of the receiver as it is behind a router ...no firewall....done a port forward 20014 and 9173 to redirect to this receiver...when i deploy i got this error

It means that the base server is unable to connect to port 20014 (the default port, which you indicated you were using) for the hostname or IP address you defined for that receiver in the odnodes.xml file on the base server.

First, make sure that OpenDeploy is actually running on the Receiver
Then, from the base server - using the hostname or ip address indicated in the odnodes.xml - try to telnet to the deployment port on the receiver - e.g.:

telnet receiver-hostname 20014

If that works (you should connect but probably not get a prompt - you should be able to quit from telnet ), your deployment should work.
If it doesn't work and you're using a hostname, try using an IP address for the receiver instead:

telnet receiver-ip-address 20014

If that works, fix the odnodes.xml file and restart the OD services on your base server.
If that still doesn't work - verify if there are multiple NICs on your receiver - and try repeating the previous step with each of those IP addresses. If you find one that works you can either use that - or work on adjusting the IP address that OD binds to on the Receiver and repeat the process until you get something that works for you.
If none of this works - chances are there's a firewall between the base server and receiver and you're going to have to talk to your network folks (who can hopefully help you with some of the above) about getting port 20014 opened.

both also cannot work...the receiver is actually on a windows 2000 professional sp4(od can support this os right)..and this box is behind a linksys router...so i just do a port forward to the private ip of this box for port 20014 and 9173.....
wonders wat is wrong also....i very confuse ....been trying and trying..under the odrcvr.xml this line

i manage to solve the problem....i change the above line to private address and it works...now i need to try the ssl thingy...thanks.....
