Hi,

I was trying to install and run forms builder on my system.

After successfully installing and deploying the war file while starting forms builder application i am getting this error

could not find the main class com.documentum.xform.designer.gui.formdesigner. Programe will exit

Please let me know what needs to be done for the same.

I am trying to install it in windows 7 and din't get any error during installation.

Not sure what war file you would have used as installing forms builder is a case of running the installation program, i.e. the installer .exe on windows, and then running the installed application via the shortcut on the start menu.

Have a look at the install location and make sure that you have everything you need. On windows this if c:\program files\documentum\...

Can you please tell me what exactly should i be looking for at the install location as i didn't get any exception during installation. I tried installing the same twice to check if anything goes wrong during installation but no results.

The dar file will install artifacts into the repository to support forms builder but you also should run the client side installer which will install the actual application on your windows 7 machine. This can then be accessed via the start menu.

Did you install the client application? If you did and you still get errors then if I recall right there are logs that might help, but at the root the installed .exe file is a wrapper around running a Java application so you'd just need to check the classpath, pat etc. got set right.

Yes i did installed the forms builder client on my machine and then i installed the dar file too.

After then i tried starting the client through windows start menu.

The error is getting displayed when i am trying to start it through windows start menu only.

I did checked the installer log and there were no exceptions.

Are there any log file for forms builder client too ??

if yes please let me know whats the location for the same.

I believe the error suggests that some classes are missing and i think i am doing something wrong while installing.

Can you please suggest there are 2 steps only for installing -

1- Installing the client .exe

2- Installing the dar file.

Please suggest if i am doing something wrong.

unfortunately whilst forms builder does have logs you won't get any as it can't find the main class thus doesn't actually start the application.

have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the forms builder client application?

Yes i tried unistalling/reinstalling 2-3 times but still same issue persists.

One suggestion ( a wild one though )

Have you checked if there is no DFC version mismatch on your client machine. Pls check if already a higher version of DFC is installed on the machine.

I am installing everything on a single machine.

Content server version is 6.7 sp1 and forms builder version is 6.7 sp1 too.

So there is no DFC version mismatch........................

we had a patch for forms builder 6.7sp1, please install the patch(follow Documentum Forms Builder, Patch, Version 6.7 SP1 (pdf)).& re-install forms builder.It solves the problem.
