DCTM Security Question

HI ALL,

When using the Webtop or DA we can configure a version permission on a specific object, so every time we will modify on that object should be saved in different version… So my question is, if we are working with a content less objects then how we can configure the same behavior on the modifications over that content less objects “Object Properties Modifications”.

Content and Security (and versioning) are completely different topics and are independent from each other in such way that if the document is "contentless", the security model and versioning are not affected.

You can have objects of the the dm_document type or it's subtype without any content and have the described Security/versioning perfectly work

I'm not exactly sure I follow your question, but I think a TBO might be a good place to start. Override the onSave() method and manipulate the version, ACL, etc.

can you provide more details like what is expected system functionality.

as Vadim mentioned that content and security are competely different topics, in order to update content user needs to Edit the document content (with OTB webtop) which eventually checks out the document. So only option for user is to perform checkin. in order to update document (either contentless or having content) properties, with OTB webtop user can update it directly if user has Write permission on document as OTB webtop (as it internally uses saveLock method which update same version and retains the object lock if document is locked)

in case you want to change this behavior, you need to make customization but still want to understand in case of contentless document, how user performs step like is he/she first going to check out document, edit properties and then check in or on save only you want to present select version screen to user.

Another way to describe what everyone has already stated, if your custom type is derived from dm_sysobject, then it will always have acl_name attribute regardless of whether it has content or not. Therefore, you can still manipulate the permissions.
