Documentum upgrade

Dear all,

We have a requirement to upgrade CS 5.2 to 6.7 SP1.

Could you please let me know, if we need to upgrade CS to 5.3 SP3 and then 6.7 SP1 or directly we can upgrade it to 6.7 SP1.

If anybody has done this before, please let me know the steps.

The Recommended approach is to migrate CS 5.2 to 5.3 and then migrate 5.3 into 6.7.

You can't upgrade directly from 5.2 to 6.7

The best way is :

5.2 -------> 6.0 -------> 6.7

Refer the Content Server guide for the steps. And, what all products are you considering for the upgrade apart from the Content Server?

High level steps:

a) Clean up the repository files so that you don't face errors during upgrade. (run the dmClean, complete all workflows and such)

b) Run the consistency checker job and fix all the inconsistencies (atleast the ones reported as errors)

c) Install the binaries

d) Execute the upgrade steps through the GUI

e) Install the latest docapps of the dependent products

f) Upgrade the client web applications (meaning, deploy the latest WAR)

The CS guide has details information with specific steps to be performed. Try out the upgrade in a non-prod environment first. Make sure the non-prod environment replicates your PROD environment, in terms of configurations, applications and data. Perform the repository copy procedure to create the non-prod environment.

The upgrade steps would also get altered based on the applications that you use.

Proper upgrade strategy would go through steps like 5.2 > 5.3 SP6 > 6.7

It would be smooth flow to upgrade, but you need to follow steps mentioned in installation guide.
