Add members to group UI for object

I have a request to set an attribute on an object so that it's value select UI is like that of adding members to a group. I'm trying to find the existing component that does that so I can modify if, but so far have had no luck. Can anyone point me in the right directon?

Your question is confusing... suggest you edit to make more clear what you require.

if you require displaying and selecting values from a registered table then you are in for a world of pain. The OOTB locator components, expect a valid r_object_id. If you could simmulate that field, then life would get eaiser

if you want to display SysObject (or sub types) then they are configured under "webcomponent/config/library/locator"

To see an example of multiple select of a document, do:

create a new document
convert to a virtual document
under Virtual Document menu there should be an option to add files
under Virtual Document menu there should be an option to create a new file, which means you get prompted for location to put the file in

Sorry for the lack of clarity.

Basically what I'm looking for is an interface like what you seen when you add members to a group - a box on the left and a box on the right. You can select one or more values from the box on the left, and then click a button that moves all those selected values over to the other box to signify those are now values of the attribute.

The list of possible values would be populated via a query.

Try making that attribute as repeating and configure value assistance to it.

This only allows you to add on value at a time (you have to click add for each item you add). Our users find this cumbersome.

You can do this very easily if you build a electronic form for your object. Of course, this assumes you have Forms Builder installed.

Did you set the component paramater "multiselect" to true? That is required to display the multiselect options

I think I'm being unclear again. Let me step back and provide more detail. We have a custom componenet that provides type ahead functionality for attributes with long lists of possible values. This is the attribute component that allows you to only select one value at a time. The user would like to be able to add to this the ability to select multiple values, so the first thing I thought of was the interface for adding members to groups....if I could leverage that I was thinking I'd be 80% of the way there using the "begins with" search instead of type-ahead, but I'm not fiding it (this is my first attempt at a custom component if I haven't made that obvious with my ignorance already). The thing I fear that would be our biggest hurdle with this approach is that the right had box of populated values does nto get filled with the exsiting members of the group....we'd have to figure out how to handle that.

Another approach that might be acceptable to the user would be the standard repeating attribute selection screen, but allowing them to select multiple entries at a time then clicking the add button. I do not see a "multiselect" parameter for that one, however, and I don't see anything that extends it that looks like it would provide that functionality.

So basically I'm back to square one, looking for the best way to provie either option 1 (type ahead or search along with multiple selections) or option 2 (standard multiple select interface with the ability to select multiple choices with one "add" click).

Mulitselect is an argument for locator components, which User or Group locator is one of.

Stating the business goal and how you have tried to achieve that, is a basic trick, if you want a good solution.

So what is the source of your long list of values? As I stated in my first respones, ff it does not have an r_object_id, (i,e, a repsoitory object, e.g group, user, document, workflow, ...) then you are into a world of pain!!!

I've gone down the route of leveraging the 80% functionality of the existing locators (usually SysObject) but working around the requirement for an r_object_id field has always been a pain.... One approach I never tried which might be worth a shot is to extend the QueryResultsSet object to insert your own r_object_id proxy.... that way the UI should work.
