SMTP activity send mail but the activity fails in workflow

Dear All,

We have a SMTP activity in our process which is sending mail to the recipient but the activity is failing in workflow with below error . Do anyone have idea regarding that?

Does the machine that you have Process Integrating services installed on have permissions to send emails? SMTP service may not be enabled on that machine.

Pls let me know where i can check for SMTP service.

But The User is getting the mails from workflow system. Do you really think there will be permission issue?

Try to connect to your SMTP server by telnet for example.

Email notification from workflow comes from Content Server. SMTP activity uses Process Integration services (BPS.war), which is probably not running on your content server; you probably deployed it to your app server.

We are seeing the same problem in our system - the email is sent successfully, but the task does not make transition in the workflow and so it fails. Were you able to solve this issue, if yes then how?

Hi Jsabh,

In our case , the problem was on the Mail exchange Server. DCTM will send mail and wait for the response from the Mail exchange server. There was some probem in mail server in sending response and thats why the activity was failing.

The MS Exchange server turned out to be the culprit in our case too. It had automatically reduced the priority of DCTM emails - this feature is called 'throttling' according out our system admins. Since the DCTM emails were being throttled, DCTM would not receive the email acknowlegment in time and so the SMTP activity would fail, although the emails would ultimately be sent out to the users. Once the Exchange server was fixed, this issue was resolved. Thanks for your help!
