checking locks for ostream files
Johnny
I'm trying to figure out how to solve a potential problem with generation of ostream files.
Templating works at the file system, level so when running iwpt_compile.ipl you have to check for locks, existing jobs yourself. But what about ostream files?
There is the case where somebody has a file attached to a job (and locked) that was created by an ostream. Someone else could easily overwrite this file from another page generation.
The ofile can be checked before generation as it's location has to be known, but ostream files are specified in the templates themselves. I haven't seen a way to find out what they are until after page generation (-manifest).
Has anybody looked into this limitation?

I haven't heard of an elegant solution to this problem. Taking a quick look at the perl code, doesn't appear to handle that issue. That being said, couldn't you use the same logic you are applying when using the clt within the tpl? Just Curious?

That might be the way to go.. thanks for the idea.
It is definitely something that the templating system should do rather than a spot fix right in the TPL... Templating has been around for a long while - so has many of it's fundamental limitatons.

I have not tried, but
iwattrib
lists the
istagged
attribute, that holds the locking state for a particular file.

This may be more than what you're looking for and/or not apply in your situation, but ...
At my previous customer site - any time a generated file was selected for submit - the submit workflow replaced the generated file with the DCR, and then when all the changes were re-generated, attached all the generated files to the job.
By doing it this way - you only need to verify that the DCRs are not already locked and/or associated with another job.
