DRS vs BAM

Hello Experts,

What are the advantages BAM provides over DRS. I mean we have xCP licence that includes BAM as well, so we have it for free. But in the past we had DRS for one of our projects. The DRS allows to generate any report based on documentum types, but the problem is that the reports that we had designed were quite complex so they take a lot of time to open. The main question is that, does BAM provide better performance comparing to DRS? The same reports can be designed using BAM as well but that is a little difficult, but we would like to do that if it will work faster. I know that bam uses it's own database and possibly the data is written into it in such a way that report generation takes less time, but drs pulls that directly from the documentum data model and some times requires a lots of joins and calculations, as a result it works slowly. Is that true?

Please give me some suggestion and share you experiences. If BAM will not improve performance we will by DRS licence and will not spend much time on it.

BAM is for process . Check this datasheet for BAM

BAM (and its proprietary database schema) was designed to let business users create BAM reports and dashboards against process data without having to know what objects to query. It is not necessarily designed to easily query against persistent objects. As dnvhariprasad alluded, if you want process data reports use BAM. If you want document/object level reporting, use DRS. Just my $0.02.

BAM provides you graphical interactive dashboards where as it would be difficult to design such reports using DRS. Sorry the link got removed I think in my previous post. Hope you downloaded the datasheet.

If your application is process-centric, then it would be good to use BAM in the sense it has separate database. However there might be some problems if you have latency issues between Content server and BAM server.

How about trained business user On almost every project we do, when it comes time to BAM dashboard/reports, the challenge is always what data the business users what to see.
