how to get total number of sessions in a repository running on mulitple servers

Hi,

I have a requirement where in i need to get total number of sessions running in a repository at one point of time using DFC. I can use "EXECUTE SHOW_SESSIONS".

I have my repository running on two content servers. Kindly let me know the approach to achieve the total number of sessions in a repository combined together from both the content servers.

I believe sessions are per repository (not per content server). This is why you can high availability if you have multiple content server. If s session was per server, then if a server went down, all your users on that server would have to restablish sessions, which does not happen in HA. In other words, you should get the same results if you execute this method from either content server. I dont have HA environment to prove this, but this is something you should be able to test.

Sessions are per instance of Content Server, not per repository. (Tested)

A solution to achieve the scope is to create one session per content server (may be a tricky task using dfc older than 6.7) and execute the query on each session.

Thank you for correcting me ion. So if you create session in CS1 and CS1 goes down, does CS2 create another session object - thereby having 2 session for the same user (one for CS1 and one for CS2)?

We are using DFC 6.6. If possible can you please share the dfc apis to create a session per content server. it will be very helpful to me.

For creating a session for specific content server you have to see IDfClient.newSession method, see JavaDoc for more details.

Sessions are per to the repository not for the content server .

for load balancing there would be two content servers connecting to the repository, and i think there could not be any thing related of combining the results to find the total number of sessions..
