How are you using this tool? I'd like some ideas!

I'd like to hear some of the ways that you all have used this tool. What is it best at when integrating with Teamsite for web content management? I'm working on a project that I think could make better use of the tool and am looking for ideas of how to best apply it. I'm using vs 3.5

There are numerous ways to utilize MetaTagger. It is important that you consider what problems you have and what metadata would be needed to facilitate and answer. You would then configure MetaTagger to get the needed metadata for you from the documents.

As an example - you may wish to improve the experience the users has with the search results page. Quickest bang for the buck is using MetaTagger to get keywords (and key phrases) and a sentence or a few as a summary. (In MetaTagger both are built by constructing a Summarizer)

This gives you two fields quickly that can be used in a variety of ways. Keywords, key phrases and sentences can be fed to the search index engine and given additional weight if the search term matches any of these values. the result is a faster search and a new ranking to your search results. You can also set your search results page to display the sentence(s) in addition to the title of the article, which allows your user to distinguish quickly if the item is of interest.

The list goes on. I recommend you take a look at the User manual for the 4.1 product line. There is a travel agency example there that walks you through a few uses.

We are currently using both keyword and description fields however much of what we enter is not generated by metatagger but rather entered as though they were manual fields. It seems that the data that is provided automatically does not match the terms most of our site visitors search for on our site.

Another issue I'm trying to solve for a project I'm working on is that abstract content (series of paragraphs / html) needs to be displayed in multiple site contexts - that is on more than one page which on it has a series of highlighted levels of navigation. I've achieved this as long as the content is displayed in one site context but if the content needs to be displayed in multiple contexts I'd have to duplicate the data and change the value of the navigation field in the DCR. We do have 3.5 version of metatagger and I'm entertaining the idea of generating multiple files from a single DCR and storing all the data unique to the pages website context as EA's to solve the problem. In my environment at the moment we're using Templating heavily but there are limits to what that can achieve and I'd like to explore metatagger. I'd like to know more about what metatagger brings to the table when managing complex (static) templated websites pregenerated by Teamsite.

Tim,

Check out the Webinar on Wednesday - it shows how to integrate TS and MT to drive site layout from EA's and auto-tagging.

Cheers,
