What is Record in Documemtum Record Management

Hi All,

What is record in Documentum Record Management?

How record is different from normal document of Documentum? The object type of document is "dm_document". What is the object type of Record?

How they are stored? Will record be accessible from DQL? If not, is there any API for accessing record?

- A document becomes a record when a retention policy is applied to it

The object type of document is "dm_document". What is the object type of Record?

- The is NO record object type.

How they are stored?

- They are stored in the same place as document location. The only difference is that you cant delete them.

Will record be accessible from DQL? If not, is there any API for accessing record?

- Yes. You can query for records like you can query for documents; you just need to understand the object/data model to understand the relationships. There is RPS/RM api, just like DFC.

Object type of a record is NOT dm_document. Any document type can be declared as record. When you declare something as a record, the object type does NOT change. With newer versions of DCTM, you will have record aspect associated with the document.

Is there free or trial version of Record Management setup? So that we can install and play around it.

There is free Documentum Developer edition that you can download; however, I dont think RPS/RM is part of it. If you are potential customer, I suggest you contact your EMC sales rep.
