Call WebServices through TBO

Dear exports,

We have a requirement to call 3rd part web services while user is importing documents into content server through webtop.

Is this possible through TBO? If possible where we need to store the required web service jars?

Please suggest whether there is any solution for this?

What I mean is that the TBO should not block the save or checkin operation if some third party component is not available.

Instead the TBO could set the status of the document, or queue the document into some virtual user's inbox which would indicate that the document still needs processing. A job or some other process would periodically retrieve these documents and process them (e.g. call the web service and update the documents accordingly).

I'm not sure that it's a good idea to put this into a TBO. What if the third-party web service is not available? This will prevent you from importing/updating any documents in your repository. I would recommend using some kind of asynchronous mechanism to achieve whatever it is you need to do.

I got you. It's a good point too.

Is there any other way to do it immediatly instead of doing this periodically?

Well you could trigger it directly if you want but you will need to have a periodic mechanism anyway in case the web service is not available. So it's probably not worth to do it. You can choose the period to be small, e.g. 1 minute or 30 seconds. Just make sure that the query is efficient so that you don't put too much load on the Content Server.

So i left with only schedule job. Last question just for knowledge,Assuming ideal case say WebService will not fail then, what are the approaches that cs provides other than JOB to achieve this (i.e calling of web service after any specific action)?

The Content Server doens't provide any options to call web services directly. You have to implement this on your own.

If you licensed the BPM suite, you may use the Process Integrator to trigger a web services from within a workflow. Checkout the product documentation for details.
