Reading Replicants using XML Parser

Hi,
Using TS 6.5 on Solaris

Using XML Parser, I need to read the replicant values of the DCR.
Rep Min is 0 and Max is 25....

Can anyone let me know how to read this in the ipl file?

It kind of depends on your exact DCR layout, but have you tried playing with the parser examples? They're pretty good, and usually lead you down the right road after playing with them for a little bit:

your teamsite server/iw/help/tst/pt/TeamSite__DCRparser.html
your teamsite server/iw/help/tst/pt/TeamSite__DCRnode.html

If you attach a DCR, maybe someone who is super bored will write the code for ya...

I prefer using IW's DCRparser but that and XMLparser are very similar.

Below is how you might choose to iterate through a list of replicants using DCRparser:

This is a simple version but hopefully you get the point. Like I said, I believe XMLparser works pretty much the same way.

} I have to assume that (a) ContentLink is a top-level element and (b) it is a replicant item [as opposed to a replicant container] - the one you're interested in. This leads me to a couple of questions - like what version of the DCT DTD are you using? If you're using the 6.x version which allows for replicant items - then I believe your DCRs should be in "xml" as opposed to "iwov" style - and if that's the case - you probably want to be using the "document" mode for the parse() call [RTFM]. If, instead, ContentLink is a container - then you need to reference the items within that container not just the container itself - regardless - I believe the code should look something like this:if (defined $rootnode){
my @nodes = $rootnode->get_node_list("ContentLink");
my $keywords = q{};
foreach my $n (@nodes){
$keywords .= $n->value() . ","; # assumes replicant item - if container, provide item reference within ()
}

Thanks for responding with a solution.......Using the code above.....I tried to read of the xml file....

My datacapture is using datacapture5.0.dtd

I get an error as ..poorly formed XML with my code....I guess it is something to do with containers....which I am handling poorly....

following is the structure of my DCR...

So you're using an "xml" style of DCR as opposed to an "iwov" style - (i.e. you've defined it as such within the templating.cfg file) - right?

I suggest you change this code:my $xml;
open (DCR, "<$dcrname");
while (<DCRNAME>){

close DCR;to this:open (DCR, '<:utf8', "$dcrname") || die(" '$dcrname' ($!)"); # ensure data is read in UTF-8 mode, check return status
my $xml = do { local $/; }; # faster, and uses the correct filehandle - DCR not DCRNAME
close DCR;You can also get rid of this line:my $parser = TeamSite::XMLparser->new(); # create a XMLparser
since you aren't using $parser anywhere.

Then try changing:my $rootnode = TeamSite::XMLnode->new($xml); # get root DCR nodeto:eval { my $rootnode = TeamSite::XMLnode->new($xml); }; # get root DCR node
if ($@){
die "Error creating XMLnode: $@\n";
}If the script dies with that error message - the problem is in the input XML - not the processing code - and you need to take a careful look at the DCR to make sure it's properly formatted (it's possible that modifying the open() call as indicated above might fix the problem for you).

I'm glad it works for you now - not sure exactly what you changed to make it work though, and I suggest you sit down with some Perl books at some point since your code does not appear to have taken much of the previous suggestions into account and as such could be written much more cleanly and efficiently.
