pre-populating profiles using .NET

Is there any documentation or examples on how to pre-populate the import (save) dialog when using C# or VB.NET? Our software integrates into both 7.5 and 8.x so we are interested in both the legacy import dialogs and the new 8.x dialogs. Any examples or pointers is appreciated.
