How to get custome reports in Webtop 6.6.

One of supervisor is requesting a report option in WebTop. The requirement is to have this supervisor be able to run a report from WebTop to get data (say from DQL). All the data for the reports come from registered tables.

Only Approach I can think of is (I don’t even know if this is even possible to do in WebTop) using WDK

1. Create JSP/servlet page

2. Add a menu Item of Reports in WebTop which invokes the JSP

3.Create a WebTop preset so that reports menu option is hidden for all other users except this supervisor

Any help is highly appreciated.

Have you considered Documentum Reporting Services (DRS)? We use this product and it is flexible and the reports can either be run by request or scheduled.

You may or may not need to use a preset. It's not required.

Which format should the report be delivered in? PDF/Excel/Html etc...?

If it can be an HTML page then you can create a custom component and have it be invoked from the button or the menu item (WDK action). Your component would render all of the report results in the JSP page and display it to the user.

If any other format(s) is required then consider integrating Jasper Reports or any other reporting lib into your Webtop

You may consider a third party tools such as DRS or Reveille Software or eDRG.

As everyone suggest that you can go with Third party tools like DRS ...but it will increase the cost of project and if your supervisor do'nt want third party then use followings steps

1.Create custom Action with component and container

2.Create data Grid layout with (JQuery and Ext Js 4.0 you can get lot of example in (http://www.sencha.com/)

and you will get there lot of example related to report Ext js is very flexible to design UI

3.Create Service of generating report in JSOn format

also you can try with Jsper report integration with your webservices

Please look in to Report.docx

and in these time when we need to desing new module we also need to consider about xCp2.x ...mean how we migarte xcp1.x to xCP2.x

so if customer ask any new requirement i will focus on extJs and Web service that is indpended of WDK ..and its very easy to desing UI in extJS4.x
