Collaboration - Permissions propagation to additional users

We have a simple scenario of collaboration where a user enables discussions (manually through folder context menu), and then forwards the folder in a task to other users.

However, the other users are not able to view that a discussion is occurring on that folder. Investigating further, we found out that the ACL assigned to the folder is not propogating to the discussion folder and discussion items that were created. Is there any way to propogate the same folder ACL to go to each of the items and the discussion folder on creation/change?

- Are you using process builder to do this?  If so, you can include DQL write activity prior to sending this to the other users.  With DQL, you can update the ACL to propagate to all subfolders/documents.  If not, then the only other was to do this is to write a TBO and extend doSave().
