Can we use fast indexes file for xPlore index server ?

Hello There,

We are in process of upgrading index server from FAST to xPlore platform.

I wanted to know is there any way we can retail FAST index files (FIXML) and use it with some kind of conversion for xPlore solution.

So that we can save time for reindexing the production documents.

Hi Jay,

Welcome to EMC community..

There is no way to retain indexes from FAST to xPlore since they use totally different mechanism for indexing. from xPlore it uses xDB for indexing so you need to re-index whole repository after migration(even this was mentioned clearly in xPlore installation guide).

During migration you can enable Database search in webtop so that atleast users can search using webtop even though FAST server is down. (Only thing is DB search will be case sensitive, but atleast there is a way to make the advanced search case in-sensitive)

As stated by sukumar, you have to re-index all your repository and you cannot reuse FAST Index. What's the size of you repository ?

Fast indexes over Xplore are not supported. As per EMC directive reindexing is required.

I am not sure what, approach you have taken, but in case you are upgrading "In Place", i.e. Installing on the same server as Fast installation, you probably do not have much options, but to reindex the content, and in the meanwhile the "Advance Search " feature will not be available, however basic search will still be there.

And if you are Installing on a new box all together, you can leave the FAST running till the time your new XPlore indexes are built and you have tested it. [EMC recommends the same], and then can have a quick switchover to XPlore without any impact on the end users or any distrubtion in the search services.
