TS Servlet Engine requiring manual invocation
fiquebem
Environment: TS 6.5 on Solaris2.9
After running /etc/init.d/iw.server start, /usr/iw-home/local/logs/iwui/servletd.log shows:
Using CATALINA_BASE: /usr/iw-home/servletd
Using CATALINA_HOME: /usr/iw-home/servletd
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /usr/iw-home/servletd/temp
Using JAVA_HOME: /usr/iw-home/tools/java
Using CLASSPATH: /usr/iw-home/tools/java/lib/tools.jar:/usr/iw-home/tools/java/lib/tools.jar:/usr/iw-home/cssdk/cssdkjni.jar:/usr/iw-home/cssdk/cssdkiface.jar:/usr/iw-home/servletd/bin/bootstrap.jar:/usr/iw-home/servletd/bin/commons-logging-api.jar
Error occurred during initialization of VM
java.lang.Error: Properties init: Could not determine current working directory.
Nothing is listening on port 8080. I get farther if I login as root and run the following from /usr/iw-home/local/logs/iwui:
/bin/su iwui -c LANG=C LC_ALL=C; export LANG LC_ALL; nohup /usr/iw-home/servletd/bin/servletd start 1>>/usr/iw-home/local/logs/iwui/servletd.log 2>&1
Then I get the following in servletd.log:
Using CATALINA_BASE: /usr/iw-home/servletd
Using CATALINA_HOME: /usr/iw-home/servletd
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /usr/iw-home/servletd/temp
Using JAVA_HOME: /usr/iw-home/tools/java
Using CLASSPATH: /usr/iw-home/tools/java/lib/tools.jar:/usr/iw-home/tools/java/lib/tools.jar:/usr/iw-home/cssdk/cssdkjni.jar:/usr/iw-home/cssdk/cssdkiface.jar:/usr/iw-home/servletd/bin/bootstrap.jar:/usr/iw-home/servletd/bin/commons-logging-api.jar

Now something is listening on port 8080, and the Web Daemon was eventually able to talk to the Interwoven Servlet Engine (after more than 15 seconds for sure).
But I don't see a "servletd" process as it appears on our old TS 6.1 box:
iwui 1657 1 0 Aug 16 ? 616:21 /usr/iw-home/servletd/bin/servletd -server -Xbatch -Xms64m -Xmx512m -Djava.libr
Should I be seeing that on TS 6.5 too?
What should I do to get rid of those foreign language-related warnings? I have the following files in /usr/iw-home/servletd/temp:
applicationconfig.rules51423.merged injection_configs51432.merged uiconfig.rules51431.merged
applications51440.merged openapi51429.merged uiconfigs14958.merged
authconfigs51434.merged portal.rules51426.merged uiconfigs44839.merged
authorizationconfig.rules51421.merged portalconfigs51437.merged uiconfigs51436.merged

commandgroups.rules51430.merged reportingconfigs51438.merged workflowconfig.rules51425.merged
commands51433.merged searchconfig.rules51419.merged workflowconfigs51439.merged
cssdk_factory51422.merged searchconfigs48921.merged
injection_config.rules51420.merged searchconfigs51435.merged
injection_configs51432.merged seems to have the language elements that the Servlet Engine was complaining about.
Should I stop TS and trash everything in /usr/iw-home/servletd/temp?
More importantly, what's the remedy for that nasty problem: "Error occurred during initialization of VM / java.lang.Error: Properties init: Could not determine current working directory"?
The current working directory just before iwuiboot invokes servletd is /usr/iw-home/local/logs/iwui. The iwui user owns this directory and has full access to it. It also has read/execute access to the following items:
Using CATALINA_BASE: /usr/iw-home/servletd
Using CATALINA_HOME: /usr/iw-home/servletd
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /usr/iw-home/servletd/temp
Using JAVA_HOME: /usr/iw-home/tools/java
Using CLASSPATH: /usr/iw-home/tools/java/lib/tools.jar:/usr/iw-home/tools/java/lib/tools.jar:/usr/iw-home/cssdk/cssdkjni.jar:/usr/iw-home/cssdk/cssdkiface.jar:/usr/iw-home/servletd/bin/bootstrap.jar:/usr/iw-home/servletd/bin/commons-logging-api.jar
Any hints?
Many thanks,
S.
