multiple containers

soka

Hi All,

Is there a way to produce the following xml output in teamplating???
AND ONLY DISPLAY 2 containers at the GUI!!??? (like Customers/Customer, where the Customer container will have the Name + Tel)

<customers>
<customer>
<name>asdf</name>
<tel>1234</tel>
</customer>
<customer>
<name>jkl</name>
<tel>5678</tel>
</customer>
</customers>

I'm using TeamSite 6.5 + xml as DCR output format

Thanks
Soka

I believe the answer is "yes"
- you have a container "customers" with max="2" and min set to 0, 1, or 2 (depending on your requirements here)
- you then have a nested container "customer" with two items "name" and "tel" inside of it.

Or am I misunderstanding your question?

Basically this is what you suggest?

<container name="customers" location="customers" max="3" default="2">
<container name="customer" location="customer">

<item name="name" pathid="name">
<label>Customer name:</label>
<text required="t" maxlength="50" size="50"/>
</item>
<item name="age" pathid="age">
<label>Customer age:</label>
<text required="t" maxlength="5" size="5"/>
</item>

</container>
</container>

then the output would be

<customers>
<customer>
<age>gfsgf</age>
<name>fdsgfs</name>
</customer>
</customers>
<customers>
<customer>
<age>gfsgf</age>
<name>gfsgfa</name>
</customer>
</customers>

and the for would look like the attached form.

soka

My form in the GUI should look like the image attached to this post.
The point is the structuer of the xml code. It seems to me, that even with the usage of location pathid, it's impossible to generate the xml I want. Thus having simple GUI l&f and a bit more advanced xml ...

Soka

then the output would be<customers>
<customer>
<age>gfsgf</age>
<name>fdsgfs</name>
</customer>
</customers>
<customers>
<customer>
<age>gfsgf</age>
<name>gfsgfa</name>
</customer>
</customers>You shouldn't have the middle tags

Hmm - I just tried this out and I see what you mean .... ignore the above comment ...

The output fish replied with is what you want to output. The DCR should look something like:

<container name="customers" location="customers" max="3" default="2">
<container name="customer" location="customer" min="2" max="2">

<item name="name" pathid="name">
<label>Customer name:</label>
<text required="t" maxlength="50" size="50"/>
</item>
<item name="tel" pathid="tel">
<label>Customer phone number:</label>
<text required="t" maxlength="12" size="12"/>
</item>

</container>
</container>

The part in red is a suggestion based on the screenshot of what you want it to look like.

I just figured it out too - but actually the change would be:<container name="customers" location="customers" min="1" max="1">
<container name="customer" location="customer" min="2" max="2">(not sure if you wanted max="2" or max="3")

You might be able to get rid of the min/max altogether on the outer container - I think if they aren't there it defaults to min=1/max=1

as I mentioned "AND ONLY DISPLAY 2 containers at the GUI!!???" That is the tricky part!

I've thought I could use "location" and "pathid" elements to place the given elements at the right location in the DOM. So to say build "whatever" xml structure I wan't.
But it seems that it won't work ...

Okay, well in this thread, you posted two messages with images attached. Chronologically, you said you wanted to achieve the second image you posted. To that end, your outer container is NOT a replicant but it also appears that the inner container can have more than two replicants and also fewer than two replicants, as can be told by the non-greyed out "add" and "remove" buttons. Otherwise, the DCT that fish and I have relayed to you will provide the XML that you said you were looking for.

So, I don't understand -- where is the disconnect?

as I mentioned "AND ONLY DISPLAY 2 containers at the GUI!!???" That is the tricky part!

Which 2 containers are you talking about - the "customer" containers (2 instances - without a surrounding "customers" container)? or 2 containers ("customers" is one container, "customer" is another container of which there are 2 instances)? or are you suggesting that you could have more than 2 "customer" instances, but you only want to display 2 of them in the GUI?

As you can tell from both Dave and my responses - you're not being very clear about the problem.

Okay, I try it again from scratch ...

1., second attacement (where I had Customers as replicant) would be the input form
2., from that I would like to generate the XML that you can see in my first post

I've seen in the "TeamSite FormsPublisher Developer's Guide (Release 6.5)" at page 55 an example.
The output there is "authors/author", and they use pathid. On page 54 this is explained : "If there is an item with replicant behavior (that is max greater than 1, such as <item name='authorlist' pathid='header/authors/author' max='unbounded'>), the elements preceding author will be created if they do not exist, but each author does not get its own <authors> parent."

This is a nice functionality, and I've thought it would work with containers as well ... so following this authors/author example, I could have something like
<authors>
<author>
<name>bob</name>
<tel>1234</name>
</author>
<author>
<name>joe</name>
<tel>5678</tel>
</author>
</authors>

I hope I managed to describe my problem a bit better now ...

Soka

PS: I realized, that I used the word 'container' when I descripbed what i want. By that I meant the "container" (boxes) on the GUI.

This DCT:<?xml version="1.0" standalone="no"?>
<!DOCTYPE datacapture SYSTEM "datacapture6.0.dtd">
<data-capture-requirements name="listing">
<ruleset name="listing">
<root-container name="customers" location="customers">
<label>Customers</label>
<container name="customer" location="customer" max="3" default="2">
<label>Customer</label>
<item name="name" pathid="name">
<label>Customer name:</label>
<text required="t" maxlength="50" size="50"/>
</item>
<item name="age" pathid="age">
<label>Customer age:</label>
<text required="t" maxlength="5" size="5"/>
</item>
</container>
</root-container>
</ruleset>
</data-capture-requirements>Produces this DCR (reformatted for posting):<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<customers>
<customer>
<age>1</age>
<name>Name-1</name>
</customer>
<customer>
<age>2</age>
<name>Name-2</name>
</customer>
</customers>And produces the form as shown in the attached image. Am I missing something - or isn't this what you're asking for?

We are getting closer now! But this has to be part of a complex form (with a complex xml as output). So the usage of the root-container is not an option, since it's only allowed on the top level of the DCT (well, under ruleset) ...

I copy a part of the desired xml output. We use TS 5.5.2 today, and I'm migrating over the forms to 6.5. And they look really ugly under 6.5. So I have to simplify it and in the meantime keep this format intact.
