What is the use of domain in Webtop or DA.

Hi all,

i am working on a documentum based application where i am creating the session by providing repository,

username and password.

Now i have to include another option to ask user for the domain.

But i have searched the net and webtop and the user guides, but none of them explains the significance of domain

or the way it works.

The user guide says that : -

"If the repository is running in domain-required mode, type the domain name.".

but it dosen't explains anything to me. In what condition can i access the content server from the client machine which is

on different domain, or in what conditions this domain thing comes to use.

Need your advice on this.

It's the Windows domain in case you have users from multiple domains. If all users are on the same domain, or if you do not authenticate against AD, then you don't need it.

I appreciate your effort but its still not clear to me, i have created two test users using DA..

to one user i did not assign any domain and to another user i have assigned any anonymous name for the

domain.

When i log in using the credentials of the first user by giving name of the server where content server is installed in the

domain field i am able to log in. With any other value in the domain field it didn't work.

In case of second user if i try to log in by giving the name of the server in the domain field it didn't work, but if i give the

the value that i have set for the second user for domain i am able to log in without any authentication error.

It dosen't explains me..

To test that what type of environment i will be needing?

Two user on two different windows domain and content server on another domain or something else ?

The CS is going to search for domain called "anonymous" (or any value you put in it). If the domain doesnt exist, the CS will not be able to authenticate against it. If you leave domain blank, the CS will authentical against local domain (or domain that CS is member of).

BTW - server does NOT equal domain.
