Check in as same version via CMIS?

Does anyone know of a way to check in a document as the same version rather than incrementing by a minor or major version? The checkin() function appears to only offer a boolean value for major but I wanted to check here if anyone had encountered a similar challenge and found a solution. Any and all help is appreciated.

I haven't used CMIS in a year or so (using the Apache Chemistry lib), but I think that using the Document.checkin method forced a new version while there was an update method that allowed to modify the object without versioning.
