Webtop Plugin

Hi,

In our D 6.6 Webtop application it is asking for enabling the plugin option and showing authentication screen Windows 7. I have attached the authentication screen shot for the same. Can you tell me, how to incorporate the plug-in the webtop package so that it could be downloaded by the user and can be installed. Please provide me details step if possible. Thanks for your support in advance.

Yes, I have got some idea. There are so many cab files available in the webtop packages.

WdkPluginCab.cab and WdkPluginCabx64.cab - Provides Drag and Drop and spellchecking in rich text editor functionalities

fileSelector.cab - Used in the import and export operation to select files from the browser machine odfviewer.cab - Used by the Imageviewer to launch open office viewer.

UcfLauncher.cab - Used to launch UCF client process in the browser machine for content transfer operation.

About UCF:

“For UCF there are 2 recommendations for this :

- Disable UAC on clients machine if possible.

- In the browser add the site to the list of Trusted Sites”

About Drag and Drop:

Currently there are many limitations when using the Drag & Drop functionality in Webtop with Windows 7 for users who don't have Administrator privileges on their machines due to Windows 7 security architecture.

Scenario 1 (Enable D&D for non Admin user + UAC enbaled on his machine ) :

1- Log on to the client machine facing the issue as Administrator

2- Disable the UAC (never notify).

Restart the PC

3- Go to c:\Windows\Downloaded program files and delete the files (WdkPlugin.dll & WdkPluginCab)

4- Perform the Drag & Drop operation (at the first time a dialog message will pop up saying that Drag & Drop is not enabled or the browser does not support D&D )

5- From Webtop go to Preferences menu --> Enable Drag & Drop.

6-Restart IE

7- Perform another Drag & Drop operation and you will asked to download the CAB file and install it on your machine.

8-Perfrom another Drag & Drop operation ( From Webtop to File system and vice versa )to make sure that everything is working as expected and to register the binaries .

9-Enable the UAC (Always notify).

Restart the PC

10-Login as a non admin user to the client machine.

11- Open Control Panel -->Internet Options -->Security Tab --> then uncheck Enable Protected Mode

12-Restart IE

13- Perform any Drag and Drop operation ( From Webtop to File system and vice versa )and it should work

the thing here is that the Drag & Drop plugin is an ActiveX component, which is why it only works with IE, by the way and with the Windowz 7 User Access Control (UAC), that what happens, it will ask for admin credentials to install something.

On top of that, you're using a version which, to be checked in the Webtop Release Notes of Webtop 6.6) isn;t tested and certified for Windowz 7....

Have you try putting the Webtop server in the list of trusted sites ? Have you played around with the Sites settigns in IE, especially the ones about ActiveX ?
