Calling Opendeploy from workflow
rudra
Hi,
I am running a particular workflow. The workflow is calling a IPL file (say A.ipl) in the first task. Within the A.ipl file, there is a call to iwodstart. When I am executing the IPL file from the console, the open deploy call is executing correctly and the deployment is occuring. However when I am calling it through the workflow, the open deploy is not working. Could anyone please help me on this.
Thanks,
Rudranil

Hi,
Check wheather you imported all the packages needed when you include an ipl in an external tak of a WORKFLOW.
To make it to execute through a WF.

What version of TeamSite?
What version of OpenDeploy?
What platform?
What directory path was OpenDeploy installed within?
How are you determining the installed location of OpenDeploy in your script?

Hi,
Apart from all the informations mentioned by fish , please attach the workflow (If possible ) or the part of the code which is responsible for calling OpenDeploy IPL

Hi Pranav,
I am using teamsite 5.5.2. The IPL file that I mentioned is working in a standalone mode (if i run it using iwperl A.ipl). When i call it from the workflow, it is entering the IPL file and at the point where the OD is called it is failing. I have used the following command in the IPL file:
/usr/iw-home/OpenDeployNG/bin/iwodstart IWD_deploy -k itlapp=localhost -k itlweb=localhost -k itlapp_temp=localhost
The OD is not getting triggered from the workflow but if i run the IPL directly it does get triggered.
Thanks,
Rudranil

Hi,
Please send me the line which is being mentioned in the workflow to call this IPL.
R u getting my point ?
Possible reasons can be >>
1
Classpath details are set or not for iw-perl and opendeploy .
2
The command line you are using in the workflow to call IPl is not written correctly.

Hi Pranav,
The exact line is <command v='__INSERT__($deploy_itl_ipl);'/> where $deploy_itl_ipl = "$iwperl $iwhome/bin/abc/wr_temp/iwd_deploy.ipl $fileCount PQA intermediate";.
But I want to re-iterate is that when this $deploy_itl_ipl is being called from console it is running properly using OD. When it is called from workflow, it is getting executed upto the point where OD is called. Upto that there is no issue. The OD command is "$OD_DIR/bin/iwodstart $deploy_configfile $params".

What you are doing sounds very similar to what we are doing - using an external task that executes an ipl which uses iwodstart to initiate a deployment. Here's the line of code we use in our ipl that makes the call to iwodstart; it works when executed by an external task in our workflow:
my $command_output = `$OD_DIR/bin/iwodstart Internet_deployment_prod -k area=$deploy_source_loc -k target=$deploy_target_loc -k definition=$deploy_config_def > $command_output_file`;
Don't know if that helps you or not.

[What version of OD?]
Is $OD_DIR hard-coded in your script - or is it determined programmatically?
Have you tried having your script log the actual command its trying to run so you can verify it's doing what you think it's doing?

Hi .. Did you check with which user id you are running your workflow or I would say in particular the deployment task
from command line you may be running the same workflow with "root" permissions but from workflow depends upon the iw_user value .. I would recommned to give iw_user value to the root and then try to run the workflow ...
