D2 4.1 Document Containment

Hi Eveyone,

I am new to D2 4.1 and want to know about document containment? How it works and what is the use of it? I used auto linking, which i dont like personally as in my case i should navigate to the folder of specific type and should be able to create certain documents. Is this some thing like that?

Please shed some light on this.

here's the description of "Document Containment, from D2 documentation :

A number of our customers still wanted to manage content creation based on the folders and thus we have brought in a concept called "Document Containment", where based on the type of folders, users are presented only a certain allowed types of documents in that folder.

But as and said, "autolinking" is really a core function of D2 and should be used to stick to the "philosophy" of the product.

Auto-linking is not mandatory and you can provide your users a "create where you want to" feature

For sure, it's not mandatory to use Auto-linking but it's really a strong feature in D2 and perhaps it will be useful to think again your business needs and try to use it ...

Thank you jeremyprioux,Julian fontaine and YounG. Definitly its a good feture to have. I was trying to fit this into my Scanario, where i have

Cabinet1-->customers[custom folder]-->Job1(custome folder)-->Multiple folders-->Document1

Job2(custome folder)-->Multiple folders-->Document2

I have 15000 customers, each customer has more than 10 jobs or some of them have 10000 jobs. So in this case dictionaries are too long to derive auto linking or maintaining it, I can use path (querying by dql) as D2 dont let me use "/" in the autolinkking and it think it as an escpae charector, So i struggled to mke it work with my existing Scanario to have auto linking.On the top of this i need to inherit the properties of Job folder to my newly created document. So i used default value templates to overcome my path issue and used instant DQL queries, which makes things little bit slow, but it worked..

Yes it is good to have auto linking and i like it personaly but it didnt fit in my scanrio and i thought this is some thing like that(document containment). Thanks for clearing my views and it might not fit what i am looking for.
