To generate Edition Name automatically

Hi,
I have a requirement as described below:

When we publish the Edition, I need to pre-populate the Edition Names as "Edition_Date".
Is there any provision in Teamsite to implement this.

I would appreciate if you can help me for implementing this.
If you are sure that this is not possible, please post your view too...

Reghu,

Just use iwpublish CLT in oder to publish a new edition through your scripts. Use the Date module and extract the current date in the format you want to name the edition.

This will do ... what you have asked for. Also for future references please write about the environment you are working on.

Does the iwpublish command will help me in this regard. If so in which config file in need to include such a way that it prepopulates the Edition Name field.
Assume that most of the case I have workflows involved.

Reg the environment, TS v6.5 and OS Unix.

You should overwrite TeamSite publish screen in order to pre populate the edition name with custom functionality.

You can find more information about iwpublish in TeamSite Command Lines tools documentation. This is a command line tool used to create editions in TeamSite.

I found a CLT named "iwnexted" which generates Edition Names in a sequence.
I'm looking around how to customize Teamsite Publish screen(File -> New Edition). The challenge for me is how to capture the event when somebody clicks the New Edition option from the Menu.

If you have any clues or pointers for any help documents or sites please let me know.(Teamsite Manuals I have.)

I totally agree with Jeff... as this is also the only option i have with me to overcome your problem. As you want to use the GUI and populate the edition name with current date....

Just customize the File Menu by replacing the New Edition to Create Edition and call your CGI file... which automatically populates the name in whatever format you want.

I hope rest you can find it in manuals.

I haven't worked with menu items in 6.x, but I know in previous verions you needed to remove the OOTB menu item and replace it with a custom menu item. The custom menu item would then call a custom cgi script that you would need to write. You would then of course have full control over the UI.

This is still true in 6.x - though you have to go through the UI customization stuff to both add and remove menu items - it's not done in the iw.cfg file anymore.

As for the original query - yes, I believe this is the only way to acheive the desired effect right now - but I'd also recommend filing a feature request with Support so that in the future, one might be able to supply an alternative for generating the default next edition name within the GUI.
