How to handle an error in automatic workflow activity?

Hi, all!

We are creating a workflow with xCPDesigner for our Documentum-based system (it works on xCP 2.0). We have such case: we upload a file to FTP server using automatic activity "Upload to FTP". If it runs correct, the process engine will execute one activity (for example, call it A1). If the uploading fails (due to authentication problems or destination folder doesn'r exist), another activity will be executed (for example, A2). The example screenshot is in the attach.

How can we make this transition (or decision point) which is based on the error appearance? Maybe is it possible to set some process variables when the error occurs?

what if setup process as:

1. Upload to FTP activity - on failure: continue to transition

2. Read from Repository - run query to select previous activity status, store status in process variable and make transition based on that variable

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility. Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and questions can go unanswered for a long time.

You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right. Then search for and select: "Documentum" (Developer Network) which would be the most relevant for this question.

In pre xCP2.0 it can be simply done by writing transition condition based on activity's return_value, error and etc.

In xCP 2.0 the answer is: add manual activity to let performer check status of the last activity and select next activity

Manual activity is not an option for our workflow, I think. Is there any tricky way to do it automatically? Can we, for instance, check the status of last task within some condition?

Yes, I've tried. Unfortunately, a fault handler activity cannot have any outgoing flows. And in our application we need to run 3 sequential activities in case of error (2 automatic and 1 manual) and, after that, return to the failed activity.

Nonetheless, it's awkward, why do not file a feature request to EMC to return BPM functionality, i.e. transition based on execution status?
